Day 55: Halfway Point, Being Thankful

Today marks exactly the halfway point of my study abroad experience which absolutely boggles my little mind. This last week has really put it all in perspective for me.

The beginning of last week was filled with housing drama and other frustrating logistics for when we return back to the states. From Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday our situation had drastically changed and it made it really difficult to communicate with each other, especially because all of my future roommates are all over the place (Prague, Paris, Florence, Madrid).

This Friday, one of my best friends and future roommates is heading back to the states to be with her dad who is very sick. Luckily, I had the chance to go visit and spend time with her in Florence before she left. She told me she's cried all the tears she can cry, screamed all that she can scream. Although we didn't talk about it much, I am so glad I was able to be there to paint each others nails, curl her hair, snuggle her and love on her as she literally puts her abroad life on hold to be with her family though these tough times.

With all of the medical stuff my Dad went through this summer, I can't imagine what an emotional, physical and mental strain this is putting on her. She is one of the strongest human beings I have ever met and I look up to her so much for that. Safe travels, D. Love you.

I am so so thankful for the opportunity to be abroad right now and even more grateful that BOTH of my parents, (and my little sister Grace) are coming to visit me in Rome. The more I talk to my peers I have learned this is really a rarity for someone my age. So many of my friends here have already lost a parent and it makes me feel so lucky for mine. And that they are still together; another rarity. Maybe its part of being the oldest that makes me literally tear up writing this. Im even trying to listen to Every Morning by Sugar Ray to not ball like a baby in front of all of my roommates.

Love ya Mom and Dad. Can't wait to see you. And so jealous that Sarah flies home this weekend for Fall break to hang out with you guys.

Literally.
Can't.
Wait.

Until then, enjoy the random pictures I have not yet uploaded from Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome while I stop blubbering.

Well, that's all folks. For now anyways.
